Just down the hill from the cabin on your way to the bakery, be sure to stop in at The Dewey Studio and find out how Mary Gates Dewey’s famous ceramic cats are made. The studio is in operation during the week, but someone is usually nearby to give a nickel tour on weekends as well.

Ohio University is only 5 miles from the cabin in nearby Athens. Cultural events at the university are frequent and include lectures, film, dance, theater, concerts, and art exhibits. Athens offers a variety of eating establishments, and most any last-minute shopping can be done at one of the malls or in the delightful shops found “uptown.” Just ask us for recommendations or directions.

A bicycle path between Athens and historic Nelsonville offers safe riding in a scenic setting. While in Nelsonville, visit the Foothills School of American Crafts Gallery and the newly restored Stuart’s Opera House on the square, check out the Rocky Shoes and Boots outlet, and don’t forget to check into events at Hocking College, like the Paul Bunyan Festival.

Hocking Hills is one of Ohio’s most spectacular natural areas and is just 30 minutes northwest of the cabin. Hike to waterfalls and gorges, and transport yourself to another place and era amongst the hemlocks.

Horseback riding is available at Uncle Buck's Stable , near Lake Hope State Park.

Located in nearby Stewart, Ohio is The Glasshouse Works, a gardener or plant lover’s dream. Tom and Ken will show you around the spreading grounds and through the jungle of gardens and greenhouses where they specialize in exotic plants for the home and garden, as well as gift items.

Marietta offers scenic beauty along the Ohio River about 45 minutes from the cabin. Antique enthusiasts can almost surely find a gem in one of the shops in the historic downtown. Restaurants are varied and come highly recommended. Again, ask us for directions.
